Chapter 4 / 6

Blitzkrieg, guerrillas and counter-campaigns

Editor’s introduction

Building on infiltration and guerrilla tactics, Boyd examines two seemingly different forms of warfare: armored breakthroughs and dispersed insurgency. He asks how each disrupts an opponent’s ability to understand events and respond coherently, and how coordination can survive rapid change. The discussion then turns to countermeasures, including the importance of popular support. Read the operational diagrams alongside this recurring question: what holds a force together, and what causes its connections to break?
