Chapter 6 / 6

Synthesis, grand strategy and discussion

Editor’s introduction

The final chapter brings the earlier comparisons together and asks how to put them into practice. Boyd moves from operations and strategy to grand strategy, connecting the disruption of an adversary with the constructive task of sustaining our own support and freedom of action. He then returns to his doubts about fixed principles of war. The closing audience discussion tests these ideas against questions about public support, credibility, command and organization; the slide-deck bibliography follows.
